Tribute to Sahrawi refugees woman

THE BACKBONE OF THE CAMPS.

During my stay in the Sahrawi refugee camps, one truth became undeniable: without women, nothing would function. I photographed them, observed them, and was deeply moved by their silent resilience.

The woman who rolls a 23kg gas cylinder across steep paths just to cook a meal. The women I met during food distributions, organizing with remarkable precision the sharing of scarce and precious supplies, ensuring fairness with absolute transparency.
The one, like Selem, who tirelessly passes on traditional knowledge to the younger generations. The grandmother who watches over the entire family. Their strength is spectacular, unwavering. They do not make newspaper headlines, yet they keep an entire community standing. They are mothers, teachers, artisans, managers, economic pillars, and guardians of culture all at once.

By supporting projects in the camps, it is first and foremost these women we support. Those who, every single day, refuse to let displacement strip away their dignity or the future of their people. Let us stand with those who carry the future of the Sahrawi people on their shoulders.
